How Rihanna and Global Citizens Got Germany to Step Up Its Education Funds for Marginalized Children
Access to education is key to a life full of opportunity for children and their communities. Education is also a key component in the fight to eradicate global poverty, and to achieving the Global Goals by 2030.
Organizations like the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) are enabling children from marginalized communities to access schooling, and from 2017 to 2020, Global Citizens and Rhianna successfully campaigned to increase international funding in support of GPE.
Prior to COVID-19, over 258 million children worldwide didn’t have access to education, but today, over 875 million children are now affected by international country wide school closures due the coronavirus pandemic.
But the work is far from over. In order for schools and students everywhere to have the necessary resources to access education post COVID-19, Global Citizens are continuing to call on governments to increase their investments in education and fight poverty.
