Mahler’s Second Symphony is a call to a new life, a different life. A better life, that has nothing to do with this earthly life. The composer asks himself – and us – the question: ‘Why do we live, why do we die?’ He rehearses the last judgement and rewrites the ending.
Mahler scholar Morten Solvik, baritones Roderick Williams and Thomas Hampson, soprano Jessye Norman and granddaughter Marina Mahler tell you the story of the Second Symphony.
