Composing the Universe – Documentary – Mahler Festival Online
The Third Symphony is Mahler’s longest piece and even the longest symphony in the standard repertoire. Mahler becomes ‘an instrument upon which the universe plays’. He listens to the flowers, the trees, the animals, mankind, the angels and finally he listens to ‘what love tells me’.
A story told by Mahler scholar Morten Solvik, conductors Iván Fischer, Lahav Shani, Kahchun Wong, soprano Jessye Norman and granddaughter Marina Mahler.
