A Child in Heaven – Documentary – Mahler Festival Online
The Fourth Symphony is the last of Mahler’s four so called Wunderhorn symphonies. Mahler’s most light hearted symphony begins with the ringing of sleighbells and takes his hero and us on a journey to heaven. Conductor Iván Fischer: ‘Mahler is not interested in a sensuous love, but in a divine love’.
A story told by Mahler scholar Morten Solvik, conductors Susanna Mälkki, Iván Fischer and Lahav Shani and granddaughter Marina Mahler.
This documentary is made possible by the Mahler Foundation and is part of Mahler Festival Online. The documentary will premiere this Monday at 8 PM. After the documentary you can enjoy Symphony No. 4, played by the Concertgebouworkest and conducted by Iván Fischer.
