Global Citizen Prize Winner Payzee Mahmod Is Fighting Child Marriage | Global Citizen Prize 2022

Drawing on her own lived experiences and the loss of her sister Banaz in a so-called “honor” killing, Payzee Mahmod has been working to raise awareness of, and bring an end to, harmful practices including child marriage, female genital mutilation (FGM), virginity testing, and hymenoplasty. This year’s Global Citizen Prize: Citizen Award UK winner, Payzee has been an influential voice in the Marriage and Civil Partnership (Minimum Age) Bill, passed by the UK parliament in April, ensuring that no form of child marriage will be legal in England and Wales.
