Investing in new choreographic talent is a must, according to Ted Brandsen, director of Dutch National Ballet. That is why New Moves has been taking place since he took office in 2003, an annual popular event where dancers of our company can develop their choreographic talents. Last production in May could unfortunately not continue due to Covid-19. However, our dancers are very creative and keep on creating new work; not on stage but online. That is why we are launching New Moves Online!

The first video titled “Nana para el Alma” was created by Corps de ballet dancer Pascal Johnson and Grand Sujet Sem Sjouke. Pascal dances to a self-created choreography and Sem has portrayed it. Creating this work was a wonderful way for Pascal to reconnect with dance during the lockdown and to rediscover why he likes to dance and is creative. The concept of this work is inspired by the location – the iconic Python Bridge in Amsterdam – and the song ‘Nana’ by Spanish singer-songwriter Rosalía.
