Nomzamo Mbatha, Actress, Humanitarian, and Global Citizen Ambassador, introduces the Scaling Up Renewables in Africa campaign, noting that Africa holds 60% of the world’s best solar resources while 600 million people still lack access to electricity. In partnership with the European Commission and the Republic of South Africa, and with support from the International Energy Agency, Global Citizen is calling for new public and private investments to accelerate renewable energy projects and address energy poverty at Global Citizen NOW: Johannesburg on November 21, 2025, in Johannesburg, South Africa.
