In the year 1901 Mahler first faces death and then meets the love of his life, Alma Schindler. In his Fifth Symphony the metaphysical questions suddenly become highly personal.
A story told by Mahler scholars Anna Stoll Knecht and Morten Solvik, conductors Susanna Mälkki and Kahchun Wong, baritone Thomas Hampson and granddaughter Marina Mahler.
