Global Citizen Prize Winner Mitzy Cortés Is a Defender of the Earth | Global Citizen Prize 2022

Mitzy Violeta Cortés Guzmán is a 23-year-old Mixtec from Oaxaca. She is part of Futuros Indígenas, a network that discusses the narratives about the climate crisis from Indigenous peoples’ perspective. In 2021, she was part of the “Defenders of the Earth” delegation at the UN Climate Change Conference COP26, and the “Cura Da Terra” Global Assembly of Indigenous Women. This year’s Global Citizen Prize: Citizen Award Mexico winner, Mitzy wants to make sure that more people get involved in the protection of the Earth, and that the fight against the climate crisis focuses on its structural causes, including intersectional perspectives.
